ULRICH EICHENAUER

The much sought-after Ulrich Eichenauer has been playing the violin for over half a century, first and then primarily the viola. His involvement with the subject includes not only international concerts as a chamber musician, occasional soloist, and member of major German symphony orchestras, but also

He also teaches, with a particular interest in exploring and applying non-traditional approaches.

He studied with the legendary violist and pedagogue Nobuko Imai, became her teaching assistant, earned his soloist diploma, and began performing internationally while still a student. After graduating, he spent several years as principal viola with the Dresden Philharmonic before joining the New York Mendelssohn String Quartet, with whom he toured throughout the USA and Europe and recorded numerous CDs. At this time, the ensemble was serving as "Quartet in Residence" at Harvard University, and Ulrich Eichenauer was appointed professor at the University of North Carolina, where he remained for over 25 years, interrupted by a stay of several years in Switzerland as a professor at the Kunsthochschule (Art Academy).

Bern and a position at the international boarding school Brockwood Park in England, founded by J. Krishnamurti, which is dedicated to non-traditional education.

During his time in Switzerland, Ulrich Eichenauer founded the Waldstein Quartet with Mirijam Contzen, which performed primarily in Germany and South America for several years. He currently lives in Germany and regularly volunteers in England and California.
